Background information

The Nurses & Midwives Council was established by an act of Parliament 1989 but started full operations in 1991 in Banjul and it's the only institution in the country that licenses nurses and midwives for pratices as qualified professionals.



Summary:

It's illigal to practice without a license and certificate from the nursing council in the Gambia.

Your license has to be renewed every year

Late registration or renewal results in penalties

REQUIREMENT FOR REGISTRATION

1 - A valid transcript from a recognized institution

2 - A certificate of program completion from a recognized institution

3 - Two (2) Passport size photographs. Should be taken in your uniform and MUST have a WHITE background

4 - A Copy of your Identity Document or Birth Certificate

5 - A completed Nursing Council Form (FREE OF CHARGE) Available at the office of the council

6 - A copy of old license is required for renewal



FEES & PENALTIES

1 - Registration Fee for national is GMD500 and GMD600 for internationals professionals per year

2 - Registration comes with both license and certificate

3 - License MUST be RENEWED every year for GMD300 for nationals and GMD600 for internationals

4 - Late registration after program completion incures charges from the date of your program completion until the date of registration. Example, If you graduated in 2018 and applied for registration in 2020, you shall pay for 3 years, from 2018, 2019 and 2020 Plus GMD300 for late registration. That's GMD1800 for locals and GMD2100 for internationals

5 - Late renewal incures a charge of D300 for locals and D600 for internationals

6 - Failure to renew your license after 6 months will results in cancellation of your registration status. You will need to begin the registration process all over
